Our very first Kudimba update, exciting news:
• Kunyumba is doing well and continues to expand. Peter Chasowa and his team are still running the project brilliantly and they continue to look after the children as if they were their own. There are 32 Kunyumba kids now, a lovely happy bunch.
• We might have found the perfect piece of land for our Kudimba plans… a beautiful quiet spot along the lake, fertile land ideal for our gardening plans. As it is located at the lake there is unlimited access to fresh water to irrigate our permaculture garden, and perfect for swimming of course. We are starting negotiations with the chief about the price and the conditions… and hopefully at some point in the future this piece of land will be our new home in Malawi.
• Finally our container has arrived in Salima, 300 hospital uniforms donated by Oxford Brookes University. This donation is for the Pothawira Hospital in Salima. Furthermore we received some toys, loads of midwifery journals and seeds for our Kudimba, everyone is excited. Thank you Mags Wilcox for your all your hard work with the collection, packing, labelling and for your generous contribution.
• A new piece on the Kudimba plans has appeared in the Oxford Brookes University Newsletter (Faculty of Health and Life Sciences), have a look at ‘In the Press’ on this website for the latest edition.
• Fred has been very busy the past few weeks and months filming life in and around Kudimba and Malawi for the next Kudimba movie…now the big job of editing the footage is waiting. We can’t wait to see the result.
• Did you know that … Senga Bay hosts a yearly Rastafarian reunion to celebrate the birthday of Haile Selassie. The emperor visited Malawi in the sixties and our village is one of the top locations on the Rastafarian pilgrimage route. It is quite an impressive event, hundreds of ‘dreaded’ visitors from all over the world in our little village, which temporarily colours red, gold and green and has a distinct perfume of Malawi Gold during this time of year. Irie!
• Our time in Malawi has come to an end again. We hope to be back soon, but in the meanwhile we continue with our program, we are trying to register Kudimba in Belgium and/or UK to then register in Malawi. We are also continuing our efforts to fundraise for Kudimba.
